Dean shook his head vehemently, "No. If dads still here, or even if..." he trailed off. He really didn't want to ponder over the possibility that their father was dead. "I'm finishing this case," he said succinctly. As much as he appreciated Sam's... concern it really was not necessary. He could look after himself and did not want advice from Sam, who had not been hunting properly for four years.

Dean sighed, and looked away, tone softening, "I'll get you back to your girlfriend, but I gotta find dad after that. I'm not going to abandon him."

"Didn't Alice say her and her family would take care of whatever mess they're in? Maybe you should just leave them to it, but this isn't our fight. Didn't she say something about dad not even going through here?"

Sam tried to reason with him. He just knew that he couldn't let Dean go back to hunting these so called vampires, who weren't even like what they knew.

"People are dying because of these vampires," Dean answered, his voice icy, "This is our problem. Maybe not yours, but it is mine. And these vampires, they're all the same, whatever they say. She could have been lying about dad."

Dean started the car, reversing it out of where they were parked, going onto the main road.

Sam shook his head. "No, Dean, you're going to get yourself killed." he said flatly. It was only the truth. If Dean didn't back down from this then he was probably going to be sucked dry by one of those things.

He tried to plead with his eyes, scared for his brother. "Please."

Dean had years of experience dealing with those eyes, and they weren't going to convince him now.

"No," Dean said, his fingers tightening on the steering wheel as he made a sharp turn, "you don't get it. Dad's missing, and I gotta get him back. Screw the consequences."

Dean accelerated the car. The sooner he got Sam back to Stanford the better. He really didn't want to deal with this right now. Dad was missing, and he was going to find him, and if he got killed in the process then there was nothing he could do about it. Sam would probably not even know if something happened to him, if he wasn't with him now he probably wouldn't care.

Sam sighed angrily. "You think dad would want this? You think he would want you to get yourself killed trying to save him, who we don't even know if he's even still here?!"

"Dad wouldn't want me to give up on him," Dean retorted, glowering at the road ahead, not bothering to look at Sam. This was his fight, and he could choose whether or not he fought it. What was he meant to do instead of searching for their father? Carry on hunting on his own? He had done a few hunts on his own, but always knowing that his dad was a phone call away. Doing it on his own, for real, was not an idea that appealed to him, and the only way out of it was finding his dad.

He didn't really see the point in continuing arguing about it with Sam, so he leaned forward, turning on the tape deck. Led Zeppelin started playing, and he turned it up, in an attempt to signify that the conversation was over.

Sam was getting really annoyed now. If Dean carried on like this he would never see him again. He snapped forwards quickly and turned off the stereo.

"Dean, you can't." he shook his head.

He wasn't going to have this conversation with Sam. They were going round in circles, and it was Dean's choice to make. Dean leaned forward, and turned the music back on, pointedly ignoring Sam. It wasn't like Sam had listened to either him or their dad when they tried to persuade him out of college, so it was hardly like he was obliged to listen to Sam now.

Sam finally saw that fighting with Dean was pointless. He was too stubborn for his own good, and they had at least twelve hours to kill, so he still had time. Besides, Sam himself hadn't listened to Dean either when it came to him leaving for Stanford - or when he had run away for weeks. He hadn't done that for Dean, so why would he listen to him now?

He frowned, subconsciously making his puppy face, but no longer looking at Dean, trying to drown out the music into the first song that came into his head.

Dean tapped his hand against the steering wheel in time with the music. They had just gotten out of Forks, and would probably be on the road for several hours more. Still, it should be alright as long as Sam didn't try to talk him out of the vampire hunting thing.

Dean glanced over at Sam, hopefully discretely. He was doing the puppy dog face again. Dean looked away. Sam wasn't going to get anywhere doing those eyes at him.

Sam sat in silence. He wasn't going to speak to Dean, not until he would give a better reason for carrying on with going back to Forks, other than trying to supposedly find their dad or just try and finish it because he felt he had to.

Well, Dean didn't have to. But he was going to anyway, where there wasn't even a point to it.
