First day (Lunch: The Cullen's table)

Alice strolled into the cafeteria with a smile on her face. People stared, but she didn't care. People stared at all of the family of vampires. Of course they did - they were different to humans - they might not be able to tell the different between the vampire and human, but they could tell that they were different and so, they stared. Over time, they got used to being stared at in public places - mainly school.

Alice sat down with her food at the table.

Lauren strolled into the cafeteria, head held high with a fake smile plastered on her face as she sat down at her usual table. It was the first day back to school, and she could already feel the Cullen's presence in the room. She didn't like them at all. Sure, they all looked like supermodels, but the way they acted, distancing themselves from everyone else like they were superior to everyone else or something. It infuriated Lauren.

She deposited her food tray on the table, and took a sip from her carton of milk. Her eyes zeroed in on Tyler, and she could feel her insides go warm. He was better then those Cullen's, if only he'd notice her...

Bella sat awkwardly beside Angela, then felt even more inadequate as a beautiful blonde sat down, with a smile that didn't touch her eyes.

"Um, who's that?" Bella whispered to her new friend.

"That's Lauren," Angela said kindly, "she's nice, just... don't get on her bad side," she smiled warmly at Bella and engrossd herself in the conversation. They were talking about a visit to the coast a few weeks down the line, down in La Push.

"Um, are you guys... going to First Beach?" Bella asked, embarrassed once the conversation quieted and all eyes were on her. She saw a few boys go slack jawed. Probably thought she was a freak. Oh joy, she thought, I'm never gunna fit in anywhere.

"Yes, we are," a pale haired boy answered me. "Hey, I'm Mike, Mike Newton, you're Isabella...? Right?"

"Just Bella," she said, smiling slightly, not meaning it. Like Lauren.

"Well, do you know La Push? You could come with us?" Mike offered.

"Yeah, I used to play there as a kid. Some old family friends live up there. Um, I'll see about going," she said, quite indecisive.

She looked across the room, scanning the crowds hastily, until her gaze froze on a table at the back, by the window. Five bright faces sat around it, bright because they were so pale they glowed whiteness. There were three boys and two girls, both girls leaning towards two of the boys - together.

But one boy sat alone. Smiling slightly at his... friends? Siblings?... then he turned and looked at her, and his gaze was fierce, black, and bottomless. Bella flinched, but then she could not take her eyes away, it was like being swallowed up by those empty eyes...

He looked so angry, so... frustrated by something. Bella flinched again, then blinked, and when her eyes opened he was no longer staring, and she turned back to Angela. "Who are they" she asked, not trying to hide the morbid curiosity in her voice.

There was one thing they had in common, the people at the table, even though they were all so different. They were beautiful. Dusty white skin and black eyes, and silken hair and sculptured noses and cheekbones. They were gorgeous, and Bella wondered why others did not stare.

Jessica stalked across the cafeteria with a plastic smile on her face. She took no look at any of the guys watching her - some even drooling into their lunches and then noticing and blushing. She smirked to herself, not looking at them as she walked past, high heels clicking on the floor.

"Bella!" She cried, taking a seat next to the new girl. This would be great - someone else to think of how perfect she was, and how this was the closest she'd ever get to somebody, because the Cullens never talked to anyone. They were at the top, even though Jessica being the next level below couldn't even talk to them. The new girl was a nobody, and Jessica would be doing the right thing and making her into someone. Not only would it make her look good, everyone would see how nice Jess was - and how awesome. "Hey! I'm Jessica Stanley." She smiled, showing her whitened teeth.

"Um, hi," Bella mumbled, smiling hesitantly in return to Jessica's smile. "Um... Spanish, right? And... trig?" she asked, wondering where she knew this girl from. Bella had biology next - fine - but gym weighed on the back of her mind like a hunk of lead.

Then there was that loud powerful question, "who are they?" After the events aforementioned.

Bella felt eyes on her, and turned from the mysterious students' table to meet them.

Typical. Bella was a shy one. Totally expected though - she was new. "Yeah." Jess continued to smile, trying to make her feel welcome. If they were friends it would totally make her more popular.

"They're the Cullens." she answered, excited to tell the story of them - it was gossip that everyone knew now, and now she could tell the stories to Bella. Awesome! She giggled. "There's Emmett, Rosalie, Jasper, Alice and Edward. They're all adopted by Doctor Cullen and his wife, but they're like together... like together together. I mean Alice and Jasper, Rosalie and Emmett. Edward's by himself, though. But don't bother - he doesn't talk to anyone." Little did Bella know by anyone she meant herself... and yeah she had tried, but that was different. If he didn't want to go out with Jessica, why was Bella so special? She wasn't even popular... and no one liked her yet. They only wanted to see her because she was the new girl - someone who no one had dated yet.

"Oh," was Bella's intelligent reply. Jessica looked sort of like she was expecting more than that. "Um, which is the boy with the bronze-colored hair?" she asked, though she'd pointedly identified him as alone earlier, so she could assume that was him.

"And do you know... why they don't speak?" she asked, "Or eat," she added as she looked over at their full plates.

She looked back at her chicken caesar wrap and carton of milk, keeping her eyes from anyone, then she looked back up at Jessica, Bella's long brunette hair falling in front of her face over the thin, black headband she'd worn. She pulled it back behind her ear, and pretended she was ready for a nice gossipy monologue. She didn't particularly want to speak.

Lauren was watching the new girl out of the corner of her eye, Bella was it? Something like that. Whatever her names was, she didn't like the look of her, the way she had only just come here and was already catching the Cullen's eyes. Lauren pointedly ignored her, taking a sip from her juice carton. It wasn't like she was anyone in this school, and the Cullen's were practically outsiders anyway.

So, Jess," she looked over at Jess, interrupting her conversation with Bella. She flashed her a fake smile, blanking out Bella who was sitting on the other side of Jess. The bitch. "Are you going shopping with me and Mike later?"

"That's Edward Cullen. He doesn't talk to anyone, so don't bother." she said. Bella needed to know that Edward was off-limits. "Never noticed that... maybe they're on a diet or something. It would certainty explain how they're all supermodel thin."

She looked over at Lauren. "Of course." she grinned. If Mike was going, she sure as hell would be.

Lauren barely resisted the urge to smile smugly in Bella's direction. She refrained, however, and settled with nodding, not looking in Bella's direction. They were planning on going to shopping, though they couldn't go far, and would probably have to settle with going up to Port Angles.

"Great," she said, and before she could resist she looked over at Edward Cullen, mouth curving into a smirk, "So has new girl got her eye on the Cullen's already? Doesn't she know their off limits?"
